Small Drug Rehab Declares War On Local Pain Clinics

Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) April 30, 2010

Alternatives In Treatment, a residential substance abuse treatment facility in Boca Raton, Florida, has declared war on owners of local pain clinics and/or physicians who prescribe pain pills without first assessing the client for dependence. Alternatives is an established Florida drug rehab program practicing addiction treatment for over 20 years with an excellent reputation for ethical treatment. In the last 6 months, 5 pain clinics have opened within 3 miles of the treatment program.

"Pain clinics have become an epidemic in south Florida, spurred by lax regulations on how doctors and pharmacies can dispense medicine," says Jack Frydman, executive director of Alternatives. Pain clinic patients don't even need to go to a pharmacy, because they can get their fix directly on-site. These clinics often have someone out in the street with signs trying to lure potential customers. A sign was seen by one of Alternatives' employees on the top of a taxicab advertising 99 cent roxicodone pills. These facilities have "bargain days," which are 2 for 1 specials that give people a $ 25 credit if they bring in a friend. Clients of the clinics sometime come from out-of-town just to get their fix. They often drive aggressively, do instant u-turns and cut across lines of traffic to get to parking lots. Most of the clinics have armed guards pacing up and down in front of them to control crowds. Frydman states, "we feel that if the average person saw this kind of a scene at their orthopedic doctors' offices, they wouldn't step one foot in the door."

There have been over 800 deaths attributed to these clinics in Palm Beach County in the last 2 years. The majority of buyers are between the ages of 18 and 25 and do not understand that they are going from smoking pot and drinking beer to using synthetic heroin. The overdose rate is just the tip of the iceberg.

Alternatives, in an effort to combat the dragon of addiction and despair, is beginning an aggressive marketing campaign and will distribute literature in all clinics that advises people how to get off of these drugs. Alternatives is also keeping 10% of their beds available for scholarships to those who want help and cannot afford it. The owners of Alternatives recently staged their own demonstration with a giant sign outside their offices, advertising serious treatment for those suffering from pain clinic abuse. Alternatives feels that "drug abuse" is very much a misnomer--the drugs abuse the user. Alternatives hopes to get this message out to their neighbors in their continued efforts to save lives.

NSF International Receives Approval from the California Energy Commission to Perform Energy Efficiency Testing for the Energy Star Program

Ann Arbor, Mich. (Vocus) May 7, 2010

NSF International has received approval to conduct energy efficiency testing for commercial refrigerators and freezers in support of the Energy Star enhanced program from the California Energy Commission (CEC) and is now able to verify energy claims for this equipment. The Energy Star program currently requires refrigeration equipment manufacturers seeking to use the Energy Star logo to submit test results from an approved laboratory, such as NSF International.

Energy Star is a joint program administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy. The program saves consumers money and protects the environment by encouraging the use of energy efficient products and practices. The U.S. EPA has proposed that all commercial foodservice equipment manufacturers seeking certification be required to submit test results from an approved lab under the enhanced Energy Star program.

Initially, NSF will focus on providing energy efficiency testing services for the refrigeration industry. Eligible products will include reach-in, roll-in, or pass-through units; merchandisers; under-counter units; milk coolers; back bar coolers; bottle coolers; glass frosters; deep well units; beer-dispensing or direct draw units; and bunker freezers. NSF will soon expand this service to verify energy efficiency claims of other commercial foodservice equipment, such as dishwashers and hot food serving equipment.

As a leading developer of foodservice equipment standards and certification programs, NSF also is able to provide sanitation testing and certification for refrigerators and freezers. NSF International can provide a one-stop shop for energy efficiency testing, sanitation testing and certification, which can help save manufacturers time and money.

NSF Internationals sanitation testing and certification program (NSF/ANSI Standard 7 Sanitation Requirements for Commercial Refrigerators and Freezers) covers materials, design, manufacturing, construction, and performance of commercial refrigerators and freezers and their components. The energy efficiency verification process requires performance testing and data verification by an approved laboratory. Appliances that meet all Energy Star energy efficiency guidelines and NSF/ANSI Standard 7 can bear both the Energy Star and NSF logos.

NSF International has a 65-year history in developing food equipment standards, and testing and certifying food equipment, said Nancy Culotta, NSF International Vice President. This approval from CEC to conduct energy efficiency testing now enables NSF to bundle Energy Star efficiency testing with sanitation certification, resulting in both time and cost savings.

The EPA requires all organizations conducting efficiency testing for Energy Star Certification to be approved by the California Energy Commission or the Standards Council of Canada. NSF International followed a rigorous application and auditing process to earn CEC approval. The audit process verified that NSF has the proper procedures and credentials in place to conduct energy efficiency testing. NSF will undergo annual audits through CEC to maintain approval. NSF is also pursuing approval from the Standards Council of Canada for energy efficiency testing.

About NSF International: NSF International, an independent, not-for-profit organization, certifies products and writes standards for food, water and consumer goods to minimize adverse health effects (http://www.nsf.org ). Founded in 1944, NSF is committed to protecting human health and safety worldwide and operates in more than 120 countries. NSF is a World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Food and Water Safety and Indoor Environment.

NSF led the development of most American national food equipment standards. NSFs Food Equipment Certification Program, based on those standards, is a voluntary conformity assessment program that includes testing, certification and production facility audits to verify compliance. This evaluation includes examining the materials coming into contact with food and reviewing the construction design against the standard requirements to ensure cleanability and prevent the harborage of bacteria.

The NSF Certification Mark on a food equipment product confirms that NSF has assessed and certified its conformity to the standard. The production facility is audited annually as part of the certification process. When applicable, performance testing is conducted to ensure the equipment operates as required and maintains proper temperature.

Additional NSF services include sustainable standards development and product certification, environmental claims verification, greenhouse gas verification, footprinting and environmental management systems registration; training and education; safety audits for the food and water industries and management systems registrations delivered through NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR).

Better Barrel Wine Co. Launches the Ultimate Wine on Tap System

Santa Rosa, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2011

Better Barrel Wine Company announced today the release and availability of the Better Barrel, an innovative, new wine dispense system designed to protect wine quality while speeding the adoption and growth of environmentally-friendly wine-on-tap programs.

Unlike existing traditional poured-from-bottle and keg-based wine-by-the-glass solutions, the patent-pending Better Barrel system eliminates all peripheral equipment needed for wine by the glass service and drastically reduces the costs and resources associated with the transportation, proper storage and management of gas cylinders, kegs, tap equipment, refrigerators and glass bottles glass bottles are currently the largest source of carbon emissions from the wine industry.

Ease of Implementation

Leveraging a combination of traditional aesthetics with state-of-the art wine packaging technology, the Better Barrel system is traditionally made from fire-bent White Oak and is hand assembled. It does not use returnable kegs and therefore, does not require a costly and complex supply chain unsupported by traditional wine distributors. A compact, self-contained system which includes on-board electronic temperature control, the Better Barrel does not require custom installation or refrigeration equipment. In addition, it does not require the gas or the bacteria-harboring dispense tubing and tap equipment required for all kinds of wine dispense systems and does not displace the revenue of existing beer tap lines.

Designed to require minimal shelf-space, the Better Barrel can be installed nearly flush with a rear wall on a shelf or counter and operates on low-voltage from a standard wall socket. It does not require any facilitization and is completely plug and play.

First 100 Units to be Released in October 2011 to California Market

Better Barrel will be releasing the first 100 individually hand-assembled and sequentially serial numbered dispense systems and related custom-labeled wine to on-premise operators in October 2011. The Better Barrel is priced at $ 199. Interested parties are encouraged to contact Better Barrel as the initial release is anticipated to sell out quickly.

Platform Open to Other Wine Brands for Greater Consumer Choice

Better Barrel is also offering its innovative wine dispenser to wine brands wishing to participate in the wine-on-tap market. Partner wine brands are ensured that their wines are always served fresh and at the proper temperature. They can package their wines in the Better Barrel format for a small license fee and release their own branded dispenser through their normal distribution channels giving on-premise operators and consumers an array of wine choices.

In addition, Better Barrel plans to announce its own ultra-premium wine brand in the coming weeks which focuses on individual lots of distinctive red and white wines.
